The Kankakee County MABAS Division 7 Hazardous Materials Team is composed of dedicated department members from various agencies across the county. Our team receives critical support from Illinois MABAS, which provides funding for essential training and equipment.

Team Overview:

• Team Size: Approximately 17 members
• Certifications: Many of our members hold Technician A or B certifications
• Advisors: The team includes 4 hazardous materials advisors who are on-call for one week at a time

• Current Team Leader: Chief Jim Spoon, Momence Fire Protection District

Assets Include:

• HazMat 7 and Trailer 7A:

HAZMAT 7 & Trailer 7A deploy throughout Kankakee County and is available to respond to other MABAS Divisions as well for the initial response of the MABAS Division 7 Hazardous Materials Response Team to emergencies requiring spill mitigation.

• HazMat Trailer 7:

HAZMAT Trailer 7 deploys throughout Kankakee County and is available to respond to other MABAS Divisions as well for extended operations of the MABAS Division 7 Hazardous Materials Response Team, including: anhydrous ammonia leaks, fuel tanker spills, and a wide range of other complex HAZMAT incidents.
